Critical Illness
Critical illness insurance is a type of insurance policy that provides financial protection in the event of a serious illness or medical condition. It is designed to help cover the costs associated with the treatment and recovery from specific illnesses specified in the policy. The coverage typically includes major conditions such as cancer, heart attack, stroke, major organ transplantation, and other life-threatening diseases.
Plan Highlights
Coverage: the MetLife Critical Illness insurance policy pays a lump sum benefit upon the diagnosis of one of the covered illnesses. This lump sum benefit can be used at the policyholder's discretion to cover medical expenses, such as surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and medications. It can also help with non-medical expenses like transportation, home modifications, and loss of income during treatment.
Recurrence Benefit: The policy includes a Recurrence Benefit that will pay a percentage of the Initial Benefit upon a second diagnosis of the same covered condition which MetLife has already paid a benefit. Refer to the Certificate of Coverage for more information.
Wellness Benefit: The critical illness policy will pay a $100 wellness benefit once per calendar year, per covered person, for completing one of the eligible health screening exams. Call MetLife at (800) 438-6388 or sign-in to your MyBenefits account to file your wellness claim.
This plan is portable allowing you to keep the coverage upon separation of service from KISD.
